Unspoken: So What Am I Supposed to Do About It?

Read: John 4:4-42

I wasn’t even born when slavery or Jim Crow was around.  I have nothing to do with the police in Minneapolis.  I have no control over what policies congress enacts.  Even if we acknowledge racism exists, it feels like it’s someone else’s problem.  We don’t consider ourselves racist and so much of this problem is the result of decisions, policies, and systems that were created before we were born and/or we had no say-so in.  So what exactly am I supposed to do about it? In John 4, when Jesus goes through Samaria, He steps into the midst of a bitter racial tension that had been festering for nearly a millennium. Their feud was created by people, policies, and decisions that occurred long before He came to earth, long before He set foot in that region. Yet Jesus’ simple actions there, provide each one of us an example that has the power to change our world today.
